Temporary Tattoos: 3 Creative and Colorful Uses

Temporary tattoos are a classic and creative way for kids and to express themselves. Although they are most often associated with decorating the skin, temporary tattoos also make excellent options for decorating, craft projects and more!

OOLY temporary tattoos add a burst of decorative flair to all sorts of crafts and artwork. For example, you can integrate them into your scrapbooking, collage making or stationary. You can also test them out on wood, or on clay pots and vases. These are just a few of the many creative uses for these temporary tattoos –- your only limit for where to put them to work is your own imagination!

My kids went crazy for these amazingly adorable temporary tattoos! The sparkly colors, the details and themes of each pack were so enticing that we immediately sat down and brainstormed the different ways that we could use these temporary tattoos.

Although there are endless crafty possibilities for using the OOLY temporary tattoos, we decided on three: using them to decorate shells for the beach, embellishing pots and pails for the garden and lastly, making mermaid bookmarks for all of our summer reading!

SHELL DECORATING

Gather your supplies:

  1. Begin by cleaning the beach shells. We found the temporary tattoos to work best on shells clear of sand and dirt and without paint already on them.
  2. Decide which temporary tattoo you would like to use on your shells. Lift off the clear layer that sits on top and press the tattoo image side down onto the shell. Place the wet paper towel on top of the temporary tattoo and hold for thirty seconds.
  3. When the time is up, take the wet paper towel away to reveal the tattoo!

MINIATURE POTS AND PAILS

This is a great way to encourage kids to be active outside or in the garden, and they make the perfect addition to a garden of any size!

Gather your supplies:

  1. Begin by wiping the pots and bails clean with a damp cloth.
  2. Next, decide which temporary tattoo you would like to use and repeat the whole process again. Lift off the clear layer that sits on top and press the tattoo image side down. Place the wet paper towel on top of the temporary tattoo and hold for thirty seconds.
  3. When the time is up, take the wet paper towel away to reveal the tattoo!

MERMAID BOOKMARKS

This is a great way for kids to get creative, as well as to encourage their summer reading!

Gather your supplies:

  1. Begin by cutting out long rectangles from your card stock or watercolor paper.
  2. Next, use your OOLY gel watercolor crayons to decorate the paper. Begin by drawing on the paper and then use water to spread the colors throughout the paper!
  3. Once the watercolor is dry, decide which temporary tattoo you would like to use to embellish your bookmarks.
  4. Lift off the clear layer that sits on top and press the tattoo image side down. Place the wet paper towel on top of the temporary tattoo and hold for thirty seconds.
  5. When the time is up, take the wet paper towel away to reveal the tattoo!

Use as many OOLY temporary tattoos on your bookmark as you’d like. Then, punch a hole at the top and thread some yarn through to make a nice tassel for your bookmark. Lastly, grab your favorite book and get reading!
